Great analogy on pillars of successful businesses by Can Akdeniz in his book Happy Company.
The four pillars of a successful business are passion, purpose, people, and profit. Imagine these are the legs holding up a table, upon which your company sits. If you remove two of those legs, or if two of them falter, the table will collapse. If you only remove one, the table will be unsteady, but it can stand. However, there is one facet that cannot be removed at any point; the essential glue that holds the endeavor together is people. You can’t get anything done without people to help you achieve your goals. All the passion, profit, and purpose in the world are meaningless if you don’t have happy people making amazing things happen every day. Let them make some decisions and hope that they respect reality enough to understand the limitations of creating happiness in the workplace.
